THE Department of Labour has warned the public that it will take a no tolerance stance towards members of the public who do not comply with the labour laws concerning domestic workers.
Employers of domestic workers are compelled by law to sign a contract with their employee which stipulates working conditions, as well as salary and holidays.
If a domestic worker works for the employer for more than 24 hours per month, they must also be registered with the UIF fund.
According to Western Cape Chief Director, Teboho Thejane, the major non-compliance is where employers do not provide pay slips to their employees and do not sign contracts of employment, as well as failing to contribute to the Unemployment Insurance Fund.
Employers get a warning to comply, but could be taken to the Labour Court if they fail to honour their undertakings.
Domestic employers can expect sporadic inspections across the province.
