Five cycle races this Sunday in Paarl
2011-01-27
THE annual Bouckaert-Soenen road and mountain-bike race in Paarl will be held this Sunday (30 January) and will start at the Paarl Boys’ High School Old Boys Club in Brug Street. There is place for the professional, seeded and the rank amateur rider to share in the splendour offered during this scenic event, under the auspices of the Pedal Power Assocation. Visit the Paarl Rotary webpage at www.paarlrotary.co.za and enter for any of the five races on the day. The long road race of 126 km is the longest of any race prior to the Argus Two Oceans, and an ideal training opportunity and test for the more serious minded rider, and draws more than 2000 entrants annually. As usual there will be some grand prizes, medallions for the riders, food and entertainment at the club house. All funds raised by this event are allocated 100% to the Rotary Club’s community projects. The starting times of the races are: long route 126 km league race 06:15, long route 45 km 07:15, medium route 72 km 08:00, short route 25 km 08:30 and short route 40 km 08:15. The prize-giving will take place at 13:00 with the cut-off time at 12:30. Cyclists can enter online and qualify for the reduced entry fee charged for early entries. Online entries are open and will run until 29 January. Late entries will be accepted on the day of the race at the starting point from 05:00. “The support of our main sponsor, Bouckaert-Soenen, provides us with the opportunity to minimise the impact of the costs relevant to this type of event,” said race convener Dick During.
