ANOTHER two people died on the road in Franschhoek last week.

This comes barely two weeks after two people were killed in a fatal accident on the R45 at the turn-off to La Motte Wine Estate.

Last Wednesday afternoon, three vehicles collided only one kilometre from the previous accident scene.

A delivery vehicle and two passenger vehicles were involved in the accident when one of them veered out of control.

The Fiat Uno crashed into the side of the delivery vehicle, killing the driver, André Voges (47), instantly. His passenger, Julie Helmie (37), died on the scene shortly afterwards. No one else was seriously injured.

A spokesperson for the police, Cst Marize Papier, said that the exact cause of the accident was still unknown and the investigation continues.

The investigation into the cause of the previous accident, in which two brothers, John (48) and Floors Kamfer (49), were killed, also continues.

New evidence has come to light, in the form of CCTV camera footage from a camera at the entrance to La Motte.

The video clearly shows horrific images of the accident taking place. But, what has interested investigators, is the possibility that another vehicle may have swerved in front of the construction vehicle, causing it to swerve in front of the car in which the Kamfers were travelling.

* On Saturday evening, 11 people were injured when a Toyota Conquest and a VW Caravelle were involved in a head on collision on the R44 at Wellington Industria.
