WE are all very grateful for new surfaces of Paarl’s main street, the latest being the section north of Lady Grey Street.
This stretch is unfortunately spoilt by several man-made potholes on recently resurfaced sections - the man-hole covers which lie a few centimetres below the road surface.
We are not talking rocket science here. It boggles the mind that this simple task cannot be properly done, which otherwise spoils a perfect new surface.
And that it is acceptable to the Roads Department, who outsourced the job? The covers obviously need replacement with new ones which are flush with the road surface.
Half of the manhole covers are perfectly done, which makes one think that it depended on a particular worker to either do it right or not.
Why not all?
Since the work was done by a contractor, why did the Roads Department not insist that all should be done properly?
And the supervisor who inspected the completed work, passed it for payment?
Shoddy workmanship like this can be seen all the way to our town entrance, done under a previous contract. We were told it will be rectified under “guarantee”
That was a long time ago, and clearly won’t happen any more.
Is there somebody out there that can get this unnecessary stupid blunder rectified?
