THE last round of the Jive Pro Twenty20 regional competition group matches was played the past weekend at the University of Stellenbosch and this weekend (Sunday) the finals will be played at Boland Park.
The tough and uncompromising competition led to the semi-finalists being decided on the last day with the last match between the Academy and West Boland.
It was the Academy who won and were thus allowed to join Central II Trojans as the two semi-finalists in their section. The match proved to be an awesome spectacle with lots of sixes hit on the beautiful Coetzenburg Oval.
For the Academy, the opening duo of Dewald Botha and Leon le Roux were the definite stars of the day after the two of them pulverised the Central 1B side by 10 wickets earlier in the day.
In Section 1, Central 1A qualified although they lost their last group match by 4 wickets in a tight fixture against North Boland.
For Central 1 the Paarl duo of Darryl Hendricks (32 off 31 balls) and Lynal Jansen (28 off 21) made the most significant contribution in their total of 134/6. North Boland got the total in the last over with 3 balls to spare. The other semi-finalist is Maties.
The semi-finals and final match will be played at Boland Park with the match between Central 1 Cougars and Central II Trojans being played at 10:00 and the match-up be-tween Maties and the Academy at 14:00. The final match will be played under lights at 18:00.
The Boland Cricket Board is urging all cricket lovers and the public to come and support the regional teams and to witness the talents of the future stars of Boland and South African cricket.
Entry to the stadium will be free for the public.
