THE Paarl CC 1st XI came unstuck in their Jive Pro Twenty20 club match against Young Peoples at the Dal Josaphat Stadium on Saturday.
Paarl batted first and lost early wickets with injudicious strokes. It was only captain Graham Adams (33 off 38) that played an innings of any significance.
The result was that the Paarl side was dismissed for an uncompetitive 81 runs. Young Peoples’ best bowler was Edwin Jacobs with 4/14 in his allotted 4 overs.
In their bowling stint, Paarl severely missed their Boland opening bowlers to make early inroads in the Peoples’ batting innings.
Young Peoples passed the Paarl total in the 16th over to earn themselves a bonus point and to win the match by 7 wickets.
The Paarl 2nd XI had a more fortuitous weekend in their MTN 40 match against the Bergrivier CC 2nd XI. Bergrivier batted first and accumulated a total 220/9. Devon-Myles Claassen (54 off 55) and Lee-Heino Morris (42 off 45) made the best contributions for Bergrivier. Freddie Daniels (4/18 in 4 overs) was the most destructive bowler for the Paarl side.
In their batting stint, Curtis Fourie started like a house on fire and was eventually dismissed in the 17th over for 76 off 56 deliveries.
He was ably supported by Garth Bushby (34 off 65 balls) to accumulate an opening stand of 120 runs. Captain Carlo Crotz (29 off 38) took the home side to the win with a very composed innings and 66 run partnership with Delano Efraim (23 off 39). Paarl clinched the match by 4 wickets.
This coming Saturday Paarl I will be away to Brackenfell in a Jive Pro20 match. Paarl II will be home against Young Peoples II in a corresponding 20 over match. The Paarl 3rd XI will be home against Young Peoples III and Paarl IV will be home against Excelsior II. All players are to report at practice today for the finalising of teams.
