The Arrows perform at local jazz festival

WHAT happens when you take two girls and pip them against an industry that’s typically testosterone driven? Armed with nothing but a drum, a keyboard and a handbag full of devastatingly honesty melodies, you get the beat-riddled brilliance of The Arrows.

On Sunday 27 February, Paarl will come alive to the sounds of the Jazz in the Winelands festival at the Nelson’s Creek Wine Estate where Durban female duo The Arrows will be the headline act.

They will be performing an extensive repertoire including their number one hit, “love sick”.

Welcome then Pam de Menezes and Christie Desfontaine, two trend-bucking brunettes armed to the teeth with original and frightfully spunky produced pop.

Formed in 2006 these two feisty, focused and incredibly talented musicians have been reshaping the way music is written, recorded and ultimately played.

Add a licensing endorsement from major label champions Universal Music, along with a fully-fledged debut album entitled Make Believe, and The Arrows become players on a global scale.

The line-up also includes Virtual Jazz Reality headed up by jazz maestro Ian Smith, Blackcurrant just coming off their CD launch tour, Cape Town diva Salome, the Sammy Webber band featuring Carmen X and Tony on vocals and the soulful sounds of Chad Simon and friends which includes Lloyd Jansen and Satisfaction.

Heart 104.9’s Irma G will be broadcasting live, joined by Sam Roy and Brandon Leigh.

Gates open at 08:00 and the show starts at 10:30. Bring along your picnic basket, blankets, umbrellas, drinks, but no beers or ciders and not forgetting your sun block.

At the jazz fest there will be food vendors, refreshments and full bar facilities and people are allowed to braai, but gas braais only (no open fires or charcoal). Tickets are R100 pre-sold, R140 at the gate and R50 for kids. Tickets are available at Computicket or any Shoprite/Checkers. For more info, go to www.nelsonscreek.co.za, jazz in the winelands fan page on facebook or call Nelson’s Creek on 021-869-8453.
