2011-02-24

THE organisers of the Cell C Cycle Tour of South Africa, has warned that motorists in the Paarl area will experience traffic congestion and road restrictions during the last stage of this race on Saturday.

Stage 7 is a 104km circle route in Paarl and Paarl East which will start in Market Street at 12:00 and also end in Market Street around 14:00. The road will be closed from 06:00 to 14:30.

“These are rolling road restrictions in most areas and not total road closure, so you will be delayed in bursts of anything from 10 minutes to 45 minutes pending on the routes you choose,” one of the organisers said.

The details are also on the Tour of South Africa website under each stage at www.tourofsa.co.za.

On 25 February (tomorrow) between 19:00 and 21:00 temporary delays and closures will also take place in Paarl.

The cyclists will follow a circular route in Paarl which will start in Market Street, turn left in Main Street, turn left in Berg River Boulevard and left in Berg River Boulevard again.

Wellington bound traffic will have access to Paarl on the R45 (Main Street), but south bound traffic must expect complete road closure on Main Street up to Berg River Boulevard from 06:00 to 14:30.

At the circle the cyclists will turn right, cross the Berg River bridge and carry on to Langenhoven Street into Paarl East. Berg River Boulevard inbound to Paarl will be closed from 06:00-14:30.

At Van der Stel Street they will turn left and left again in Klein Drakenstein Road up to Jan van Riebeeck Avenue where they will turn left again. They will then turn right into Lady Grey Street where they will again turn left into Main Street.

In this area complete road closure and temporary delays will take place from 08:30 till 14:30.

The intersection at Main and Market Streets on lap 3 and 6 will be a hot spot points competition.
