LOCAL golfers dreaming of qualifying for the Sanlam Cancer Challenge, need to register as soon as possible at their nearest club. Club competitions will be played countrywide from March to July with the winners qualifying for the regional finals from August to September. The winners of the regional finals will travel to Sun City to compete in the 36-hole Sanlam Cancer Challenge national finals in October. A total of 37 000 golfers entered the 2010 challenge, which featured 800 club competitions and 32 regional finals in an effort to raise R2,5 million for the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa). “This will be our second year at the new venue of Sun City, which has made a difference in the desire of the country’s amateur golfers to be part of this event,” said Gary van Loggerenberg, Sanlam’s sponsorship manager. The primary aim of the Sanlam Cancer Challenge is to raise funds for Cansa. Since 1993, this event, has contributed R23 million to the battle against cancer. Golf Clubs are encouraged to register online by visiting sanlamcancerchallenge.co.za.
