SEVEN Paarl cyclists, Christo Lourens, Gideon van der Spuy, André Rossouw, Donna van der Walt, Ludwig Terblanche, Paul Meyer and Louis Goldberg, will take on the new 3-day MTB stage race (called the Columbia Grape Escape) that will take place from tomorrow to Sunday.

The Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust is the organiser of the race from Eden on the Bay to Nelson Wine Estate (approximately 85km) on the first day, from Nelson Wine Estate to Boschendal Wine Estate (approximately 76km) on the second day and a Boschendal Wine Estate (67km) route on the last day.

For those wishing to make a real weekend of their Grape Escape experience, camping will be available at Boschendal Wine Estate, within 100m of the finish line.

More than 5000 cyclists will participate in the Grape Escape and the Cape Argus Pick n Pay MTB Challenge (Boschendal) this weekend and road closures and potential delays will happen from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 March.

For the safety of the competitors and general public, traffic will be controlled in areas where cyclists make use of public roads.

Drakenstein (tomorrow): Occultsdale Road, Philadelphia Road and Wellington Road (09:45-12:30) and the R304/R302 at Slent Road and Voor Paardeberg Road (10:30 -13:30).

Saturday, 5 March, Drakenstein/Wellington: R45, Lady Loch (07:15- 08:30), R303, Bainskloof Pass, R301 (08:00-11:00), R45, R310 (09:30-12:30) and Stellenbosch/Franschhoek/Paarl: R310 (07:00-14:00).
