More cyclists in Paarl next week

THE 2011 Le Coq Sportif Tour de Boland, which starts in Paarl on Tuesday (8 March), will have all the starts and finishes in Main Street in Paarl South and motorists can expect traffic delays and also route diversions until 11 March. Cyclists will start at 08:30 near the Strooidak Church and will return to Paarl between 12:00 and 12:30. Main Street will be closed between Rose and Brug Streets from 08:00 to 13:30. Organisers also inform motorists that mountain passes will be closed at various times. During Stage 1 (8 March) cyclists travel from Paarl via Wellington and Bain’s Kloof Pass to Wolseley, Hermon Road and back to Paarl via Wellington. Bain’s Kloof Pass will be closed from 08:00 to 09:30 on 8 March, and from 11:00 to 13:00 on 9 March, Du Toit’s Kloof Pass from 08:00 to 10:00 on 9 March and 10:30 to 13:30 on Thursday and the Franschhoek Pass from 08:00 to 10:00 on Thursday. Stage 2 (9 March) is from Paarl via Du Toit’s Kloof Pass to Worcester and back via Bain’s Kloof Pass (R43 Road) and Wellington to Paarl. Stage 3 (10 March) is from Paarl to Franschhoek and via the Franschhoek Pass to Villiersdorp, Worcester (Brandvlei Dam Road), Rawsonville and Du Toit’s Kloof Pass to Paarl. On Friday the Tour will finish with a two-circuit race in Paarl. During this event Main Street will be closed from Rose Street to Concordia Street (KWV) at certain times. Traffic will also be regulated at the Berg River Boulevard and Main Street traffic lights and the intersection to Haarlem Street. The longer route (5 times) is from De Oude Paarl Hotel (Main Street) via Jan Phillips Mountain Drive and Pieter Hugo Street back to Main Street, then via Concordia Street, Alleman Street and Roodeberg Street to Cecelia Street, Berg River Boulevard and Haarlem Street back to De Oude Paarl Hotel in Main Street. The shorter route is from Main Street southwards turning left into Berg River Boulevard and left into Haarlem Street and back to Main Street (20 times).
