Disappointed with Paarl information office

I am born in Paarl, but currently live in Cape Town. I recently visited the information office in Paarl, for I haven’t been visiting the area for quite some time. I came into the office and saw a lady sitting at her desk busy on her landline and another lady working on her computer. I was looking around in the office for interesting places to visit and also in search of accommodation. Something that immediately caught my eye was the fact that there are no promotional items for Paarl on sale in the office, not a post card, nothing. The office looks so dull and uninviting. Now after five minutes and only after completing her telephone conversation, the lady behind her desk got up and asked me: Is there something I can help you with? Not a hello or welcome to Paarl, nothing. She was wearing shorts with a top that left nothing to the imagination - a very relaxed dress code for an information office. She seemed very irritated. I replied: Yes please, what is a must see for myself in Paarl, I am a born Paarlite and haven’t visited the area for quite some time. She gave me a list of attractions she took out from under the counter and a map of the area and told me that all the places of interest were on there. I was totally shocked, for I’ve been to Cape Town Tourism office quite a few times and the staff there are so eager to assist and to promote their town, but it seems like there is no passion for Paarl in that information office. Earlier, when I phoned about accommodation in a certain price range, they would not give any suggestions, but insisted that I come in personally. That’s why we went there. My wife and I took a Paarl brochure which was on one of the racks and made phone calls from our car. I was utterly disgusted with the service at the Information office - no wonder Franschhoek is such a hub for tourists!
