TWO young chef students from the Institute of Culinary Arts at Spier walked away with top honours in the Young Chef Competition held at Gastronomica, Knysna, on 27 September.

Winner Andrew Booth (22) and runner-up Pierre van Zyl (19) are both following the City & Guilds diploma at ICA, currently completing their industry training in Franschhoek – Andrew Booth at Klein Oliphantshoek and Pierre van Zyl at Reuben’s.

The competition, open to young chefs under the age of 27, was held in accordance with the strict competition rules of the International Chaîne des Rôtisseurs.

The young chefs were presented with a mystery market basket containing seasonal ingredients to use in the design and preparation of a three-course meal for four people, all within four hours.
