MY Kia Rio (nou ’n eks) is by Courtrai Auto gekoop en gereeld gediens, wel met minder sukses ná personeelveranderinge oor die afgelope paar jaar.

’n Nuwe koppelaar (clutch kit) word benodig en word deur Courtrai Motors voorsien en geïnstalleer teen ’n koste van R3 665. Drie weke later is ek gestrand op die N1 met koppelaarprobleme. Courtrai Auto laat die werk oordoen en ek kry ’n volgende rekening van R2 327. Ek betwis die rekening en vind die eienaar van Courtrai Auto uiters onbehulpsaam.

Die werkswinkelbestuurder verdraai die werklikheid, die eienaar probeer nie eens agter die kap van die byl kom nie. Ek nader koppelaarsentrums wat oor die nodige kennis beskik en ek kontak Kia se hoofkantoor.

Die Motorindustrie-Ombudsman word genader nadat alle ander kanale faal. Die Ombudsman bevind in my guns met die woorde dat my klag “selfverduidelikend” is en dat Courtrai Auto die saak moet regstel. Dit was 15 Julie verlede jaar.

Die uiteinde: Ek ry nie meer met ’n Kia nie. Ek sal nooit weer Courtrai Auto ondersteun nie. Behalwe skokkende diens en vakmanskap strek hul arrogansie sover dat hulle die Ombudsman van hul industrie blatant ignoreer.

Jaco von Kotze of Courtrai Auto replies: During September 2009, Mrs Zietsman came to our workshop twice requesting from us to adjust her clutch (not repair it).
We informed her that her vehicle’s clutch needs replacement. She refused, stating that she does not have funds or time to get the clutch replaced. On 26 October 2009, she brought the vehicle in for a clutch replacement.
After fitment of the new clutch, the vehicle was tested by our senior technician and then the vehicle was returned to Mrs Zietsman, who after replacement of the clutch had no complaints.
The breakdown thereafter was caused by the clutch bracket breaking out of the firewall, possibly because of metal fatigue on a 2003 model Kia Rio that has had 137 341 kms on the clock at that time and due to the fact that Mrs Zietsman has driven her vehicle too long before getting the clutch replaced.
The clutch bracket is not visible to the eye to notice that it could be starting to break loose from the firewall, hence the additional cost of replacement and repair.
We explained to Kia SA and the Ombudsman on numerous occasions that we cannot assist Mrs Zietsman in any way.
