New library system for Drakenstein
2011-03-24
SINCE 1999 the library services in Drakenstein area have been using CPALS as the computerised online software program to manage patrons and circulate library material in local libraries. They are now due for an upgrade to a new system. All libraries will be closed for a week from 4 to 9 April, while staff undergo training on the SITA Library Information Management System (SLIMS). The major difference between the two systems is that SLIMS is web-based, which means you can renew your books from home. If you have a computer connected to the internet, the website address, a user name and password you will be able to renew your books or even request a list of all the books you’ve read during the past year. And if you have an e-mail address it’s no more snail mail for you. All library patrons will be asked to verify their information as they visit the library after migration to SLIMS. Users are requested to return all overdue and long outstanding material (fine free) before April and bring along identity documents and proof of address when they visit again. Libraries will reopen from 11 April, starting with Paarl and Wellington.
