Building a body of work

WELLINGTON bodybuilder Warren van Schalkwyk has been practising this sport for less than a year, but has already notched up several titles.
Van Schalkwyk, who played wing for Wellington Rugby Club last year, traded his rugby boots for a speedo and baby oil in January this year.
And since then he hasn’t looked back - well, only to check out his “lats” in the gym mirror.
His latest accomplishment is being crowned SA Welterweight Champion at the SA Natural Bodybuilding Championships in Johannesburg two weeks ago.
“Bodybuilding is definitely for me,” says the 26-year-old who is a member of the Wellington Physical Culture Club.
Since he has been competing, Warren has also won the welterweight and overall divisions at the Mr Wellington Competition, the welterweight and the Mr Country titles at the Carl Fredericks Memorial Competition, as well as the welterweight and overall title in the SA Development Championships.
“I hope to improve on my performance next year,” he adds.
When he’s not training in the gym or competing, Warren manages the supplement department for a local pharmacy chain store.
