Second Epic for Ferreira and Droomer
2011-03-24
PAARL cyclists Noel Droomer (43), a fuel retailer and property owner in the Paarl area, and website developer Louis Ferreira (36) will be teaming up for this year’s Absa Cape Epic, which starts on Sunday. It will be their second race, after completing the legendary mountain-bike stage race in 2009. The renowned race, celebrating its eighth year, will see riders start off with a prologue in Tokai Forest (this coming Sunday) and finish eight days and 707 km later (Sunday 3 April) at Lourensford Wine Estate near Somerset West. The Paarl duo entered the 2011 Absa Cape Epic after Droomer received a text message from the Absa Cape Epic, notifying him of the entry date. Droomer comments: “There was only one partner that came to mind when I received the text. Ferreira is like a 250 Isuzu Diesel-never-gives-up. And I owe him for asking me in 2009.” In turn, Ferreira jokes: “I like to think that no one else was brave enough to ride with him (Droomer), a cycling demon in the making.” The eight day mountain bike adventure of 707km with 14 550m of climbing will lead 1 200 cyclists through challenging landscapes with stage locations in Tulbagh, Worcester and Oak Valley and then returning to Lourensford. .
