Fun activities with Populate the Parks campaign
2011-03-24
THE Populate the Parks campaign is a project of the Drakenstein Municipality which aims to make the public aware of the importance of parks as public open spaces and to preserve parks for future use. Communities will get a chance to use the parks positively for their enjoyment with various planned programmes. The municipality wants to take concrete steps to make the parks safer for our communities. The programmes are designed to include all age groups and to allow for different interests. There will be story-telling and Steiny the dragon is visiting all the parks to teach kids about recycling and how to keep our parks clean. Children will have fun with indigenous games, jumping castles, slippery slides, treasure hunts and a lot of other interesting items. The events will take place at the parks closest to the Mill Street Library (Amazing Race on 30 March at 15:00 and a talent show on 30 March at 10:00), Drakenstein Library (jumping castles, Steiny the dragon, story-telling sessions on 28 and 31 March), Mbekweni Library (indigenous games, Steiny the dragon, story-telling on 31 March, pre-school soccer competition on 1 April), Wellington Library (Steiny the dragon and story-telling on 29 March and slippery slide, jumping castles, fire brigade on 31 March), Van Wyksvlei Readers Library (story-telling on 25 March), Groenheuwel Library (How to read a recipe on 28 March, colour-in competition on 29 and 30 March and a treasure hunt on 29 March) and Saron Library (story-telling and a talent show). Full details of the campaign, which runs until 1 April, are available at your nearest library.
