Mortar found in Paarl CBD

WAS someone planning war in Paarl? This is amongst the questions which are being asked after a Paarl policeman discovered a cache of ammunicition in the CBD last week. The police officer was on a regular patrol of the CBD when he was stopped by a vagrant in New Street. He was told that there was a strange parcel hidden in a drain next to the public toilets on Patriot Square. On closer investigation the officer found a wide range of ammunition such as R5, 9mm and shotgun rounds. But what made his hands truly sweat was a large mortar. The mortar was handed over to the explosives investigation unit to try and establish its origin. No suspects have been identified.
