AS a regular walker along the banks of the Berg River I am increasingly disgusted by the amount of litter that has been left there by the people who use this as a recreational facility.
From used disposable nappies to condoms to fast food wrappers, all are left in the grass.
Another eyesore is on the road towards the Arboretum just beyond the squash club - it looks like a rubbish tip.
A further concern is the area next to the Paarl police station; I think it is the police flats. The litter there is also abundant. In fact the whole of the boulevard is dirty.
However the purpose of this letter is to try and establish who is responsible for either policing the banks of the river or for the cleaning of the areas in question.
From what I can see not one of these tasks are being done.
As a taxpayer I know it is the responsibility of the Drakenstein Municipality to ensure the cleanliness of our beautiful town. Sadly this has been neglected.
Maybe the saying “New brooms sweep clean” is appropriate during election time!
