THE Drakenstein Municipality recently upgraded the sewage-related infrastructure in Gouda and constructed additional water pipelines to create additional capacity and improve the level of service.
The work included the upgrading and extension of the Gouda sewage pumping station, Gouda Waste Water Treatment Works and domestic water supply reticulation at a cost of just below R6 million.
The project was handled by Lyners Consulting Engineers and JVZ/Vakala Joint Venture Civil Contractors.
The sewage pumping station was upgraded by installing larger pumps, new electrical switchgear, a mechanical screen to remove rags and a controlled overflow chamber.
A new 250 mm diameter rising main was installed from the pumping station to the upgraded Gouda Waste Water Treatment Works to increase the capacity.
The new infrastructure has resulted in additional capacity to allow new developments and especially the planned residential development to proceed.
