AT the inaugural Top 100 SA Wine Challenge, South Africa’s top wines were selected by a panel of renowned international and South African judges.
Five of the nine judges were Masters of Wine of whom there are less than 300 in the world.
Tim Atkin MW, chairperson of the 2011 judging panel said: “Top 100 SA Wines is one of the most exciting projects I have ever been involved with, setting new standards of professionalism and integrity for the Cape Wine industry.”
Included on the top 100 list are three wines by Pierre Wahl of Rijk’s Private Cellar: the Chenin Blanc Reserve 2007, the Pinotage Reserve 2007 and Touch of Oak Chenin Blanc 2009.
Other local cellars with two wines on the list are Bosman Family Vineyards, Boschendal, DGB (The Bernard) and Zorgvliet. Also on the list are Allée Bleue Isabeau 2010 and La Motte Pierneef Shiraz Viognier 2008.
