THE talented local singer Sydwell Beziek is ploughing back into the community by creating a platform for talented young artists to be recognised.
Recently he released his first single CD called Yebo.
Beziek decided to re-launch the Global Spotlight Talent Search competition founded by late Andrew Strauss.
“As a student of the late Mr Andrew Strauss, I’ve also competed at the Global Spotlight Talent Search Competition and the exposure that I got as a young singer was priceless,” said Beziek.
With the re-launch, Beziek decided to pay tribute to his late vocal coach and the community who have helped him get to a point in his career where he could release a CD.
Until June, Sydwell and his team will be busy with auditions, preliminary rounds, semi-finals and the gala evening on 16 June (Youth Day).
“In association with Peter Cellars we are aiming to give young aspiring artists the platform to compete and get their talents out there.”
According to Beziek he is trying to pave the way for young artists to achieve their dreams, just as he did.
He started singing in church, school and community choirs and later blossomed from choir member to solo vocalist. He further developed his skills for singing at the La Musique School of performing arts and evolved under the watchful eye of Strauss. Beziek loves Soul, R&B, Pop Classics and spiritual songs.
Not only has he performed on national stages, but also internationally and has won quite a few competitions.
In 2009 he was named the overall winner at the Winelands Barnyard Theatre’s Talent Search Competition, and in 2008 he was part of SABC 2’s top 30 of the “I want to sing Gospel” singing competition.
From 2005 to 2007 he performed in Palma De Mallorca, Spain, doing variety shows.
The year 2001 saw him win gold at the South African championships of performing arts. He was also chosen to represent South Africa at the World Championships of performing arts held in Los Angeles, USA.
The Global Spotlight Talent Search competition’s auditions will take place today and registration will start at 11:00.
