2011-05-05
A MAN died last week when his home on Grande Provence farm, Franschhoek, caught alight. The incident took place in the early hours of Friday morning when the informal home of Cameron Jefthas (22) which he shared with his girl-friend, Melany Otto, burst into flames. According to police spokesperson, Cst Marize Papier, Jefthas’s mother, Elizabeth Jefthas, who lives close by, was awoken by screams coming from her son’s house. “She ran outside and saw the girl-friend with Cameron in her arms. She was trying to resuscitate him, but he had already died due to his injuries.” Otto was taken to Stellenbosch hospital with burns on her shoulders. She is in a stable condition. It is alleged that an electric cable caused the fire.
