Local builders sign contract
2005-03-24
A LOCAL building company, Bright Idea Projects 632 CC, has been awarded the contract to build 20 houses at the La Motte forestry terrain for employees of the Berg Water Project.
After months of negotiating the financing was obtained and a guarantee received for the R3 million contract. The tender of Bright Ideas, owned by Willie Davids and Peter Maziko, was the most competitive.
Johann Claassens of the Berg Water Project praised the support of businessman Tokyo Sexwale in the matter.
“He is investing in the future development of the disadvantaged communities of Franschhoek. It is great to see a prominent businessman playing such a pivotal role in local empowerment. He is definitely setting the pace.”
Bright Ideas Projects is hoping that this contract will open up new opportunities for them and to ensure that the company develops into a completely sustainable entity.”
Meanwhile the contract for the remaining 20 houses at Dwars River will be awarded soon.
A total 80 houses valued at R30 million will be transported to the Stellenbosch Municipality after the completion of the dam, and the profit from house sales will be used to the advantage of local communities.
This constitutes a huge investment in the local housing market, and will alleviate housing shortages in the area.
Maziko says, “The managers of the Berg Water Dam Project have stuck to their promises regarding empowerment of the formerly disadvantaged community of Franschhoek.”
