TWO armed robberies took place in Franschhoek this weekend within an hour of each other. The first incident took place at 19:30 at a Somalian shop in Groendal. Shop owner, Mammed Tafara, was confronted by six men, one of whom was armed with a handgun. They demanded money and when he resisted, he was struck in the face with the firearm. Police spokesperson Cst Marize Papier said that the robbers escaped with cash and airtime vouchers. An hour later four men armed with firearms entered the Hozana Store in Langrug. Papier said they demanded money, airtime and cellphones from the owner and fled on foot. No one has been arrested in connection with the two incidents.
