DA takes Drakenstein

THE DA has decisively taken Drakenstein with 57,38% of the votes in Wednesday's municipal election. Gesie van Deventer is the new mayor of Drakenstein, which has been ruled by the ANC for most of the past decade.
The DA won a total of 22 wards and will have an additional 13 councillors from the PR list for a total of 35 councillors, giving them a clear majority.
The ANC won nine wards and will have an additional 10 proportional councillors as well (a total of 19).
Smaller parties who won proportional seats are NPP (2), Cope (2), ACDP (1), Sapco (1) and PDM (1).
The DA losts three wards by 100 votes or less.
