I KNOW not whether it is a question of a dearth of leaders within the ANC (Mbekweni) or rather a matter of indecisiveness that we have lost the plot so much, so that with all due respect to the proportional councillors; we have chosen people who not only are inexperienced when it comes to local governance, but they also lack the necessary expertise and tactical acumen to hold such positions.
I foresee a torrid and a bumpy ride for them in the council chambers because they are not the right people to champion our cause and lead us to our former glory.
There are a lot of people in Mbekweni within the ANC structures who could have been given a chance to move the party forward.
Then again only time will tell if they are indeed capable of being effective in their endeavour to bring a better future for us; otherwise they have been thrown into the lion’s den.
I sense that the DA will be having a ball and they will exploit each and every weakness that they see from the opposition.
Lest we forget, the ANC was built on the foundations of strong, good and solid leader- ship.
This election serves as a timely reminder to our designated councillors (ANC Mbekweni) that in order for them to win back the confidence of the masses, they must engage with people on all matters that affect their daily lives, whether they are political or otherwise in nature.
They should use the ward committees at their disposal; as this is where they will know what are the major issues or challenges that people are faced with.
One lesson to be learned from their predecessors is the fact that you ignore the people at your own peril.
Direct democracy is the way forward at local government level. Last but not least, please stop being egocentric and arrogant once you assume your duties in office and remember why and how you got there in the first place.
Aluta Continua.
