2011-06-02
THE u.18 soccer team of the Paarl Soccer club grabbed a 2-1 victory against Kuyasa Kids of Stellenbosch last weekend. Within minutes of the kick off Paarl were awarded a penalty, but Hershelle Arendse was unable to convert. The wet conditions were making ball control difficult and when the Kuyasa keeper failed to hold a free kick, Daylin Carollisen was on hand to tap the ball home for Paarl. Paarl should have scored again wasting a number of chances, but went in at the break 1-0 ahead. In the second half the visitors continued to pressurise the home defence and after a tricky run, Emile Krieger floated an excellent strike over the keeper’s head into the top corner. Shortly afterwards a wicked free kick from Arendse skidded just wide of the upright. With Paarl leading 2-0, the Paarl defence remained solid with Chadley Volmink and Clinton Keet performing excellenty. With five minutes to go a Kuyasa striker was sent crashing in the box and from the resulting penalty the home team pulled a goal back. From then on Paarl never looked in danger as the visiting defence remained firm until the final whistle.
