Robbers escaped with an undisclosed sum of money on Tuesday night, when they blew up an Absa ATM in Mbekweni. The crime was only noticed at 08:15 on Wednesday morning outside the popular Chippa’s Place restaurant in Mafila Street. Police cordoned off the area while they waited for members of the bomb squad to arrive to secure the area. Debris of the blast was strewn as far as 20 metres from the ATM. According to a resident of the area, she heard what sounded like an explosion at about midnight on Tuesday. Police could not give any further details about the incident.
