Paarl athletes into medals at junior champs

A LEARNER at Paarl Gymnasium in Paarl, Jan-Louw Kotze, was the star of the South African team during the 2011 Southern Region Youth Athletics Championships in Namibia when he broke the 20-year-old South African discus record of Frits Potgieter, set in 1991, with a distance of 64,79m. Jan-Louw also won a silver medal for South Africa in the shot-put boys u.17 with a distance of 17,14m. Marina Swanepoel from Paarl Athletics Club, also a learner at Paarl Gymnasium, won a silver medal in 400mH for u.17 girls in 64,30 seconds.
