THE rugby match between Boland and Western Province, which was stopped after a few minutes due to a blackout last Wednesday evening, will be played this afternoon at 15:00.
Only seven minutes into their friendly match against Western Province which started at 18:00 on Wednesday night, Boland Stadium was hit by a blackout which put an end to the game and left players and spectators greatly disappointed.
Boland were ahead by 7 points to 0 in rainy weather and on their way to the try line again, when an overload caused the Wellington substation to trip, causing a power blackout.
Players waited in the cold until a decision was taken to cancel the game, as there was no certainty how soon power would be restored. The lights came on about an hour later, at 19:00.
Boland gave the assurance that the blackout had nothing to do with non-payment of their utilities bill.
“We are definitely fully paid up,” said Boland PRO Jaco van Wyk.
