A YOUNG father of two children was killed by a speeding car in Phola Park, Mbekweni, on Saturday night. Thandixolo Mtwayi (30) was walking with two family friends on their way to J Block when the car hit him from the front. The accident happened on the same day that Thandixolo, a student constable, had buried his late brother. Some of the family members were still cleaning up after the funeral when he was struck by the car on a street not far from his home. A very traumatised Nceba Mtwayi said, “We were walking on the side of the road when I noticed a car light in front of us, then I heard a crashing sound. “The next thing I saw my cousin flying high away from us as the car sped away. He landed heavily on the tar. I stopped a car that was following the speeding car. We tried to chase after the black Toyota Runx that hit my cousin, but it disappeared in Project 2,” explained Nceba. “When I got back to the scene, my cousin was still alive. I called the police and we waited for an ambulance.” By the time the ambulance arrived, however, the father of two was declared dead on the scene. Thandixolo leaves behind his wife and two children aged five and two years old respectively, his parents and three brothers. He died on the birthday of his little daughter. Constable Lungiswa Mqakelana of Mbekweni police station said the police are investigating a case of culpable homicide. No arrest has yet been made.
