THE Hout Street Gallery in Paarl presents its popular annual Winter Gala from 30 June to 15 August.
Established in 1975 the gallery has become well-known for its twice-yearly exhibitions which feature work of more than thirty leading South African artists.
“We welcome back work by a host of familiar friends and names as well as introducing some first-time exhibitors to our Winter Gala, which opens slightly earlier this year,” says owner David Zetler.
“The work of Christo Coetzee, which is internationally acclaimed, returns with an excellent example of Gutai Painting in mixed media, which he painted in 1963. Tisa Mertz shows a new collection of oils, both large and small.”
Acclaimed artist and teacher, Ryno Swart, will present a number of gentle female portraits including Fiona’s Cello and Camilla.
On show will also be flower pieces by Cape Impressionist Kobus Louw and pastels by Conrad Theys, as well as a sweeping Noordhoek vista by Simon Jones. Natalie Hirschman offers a range of country scenes including a most striking eagle.
Paarl artist Jeffrey Appollis, will be showing an assortment of still lives on tables and a selection of colourful landscapes.
Fellow Paarl artist and designer Dawid Toua also features prominently in the Winter Gala exhibition, with eight works on display.
Among the artists exhibiting for the first time at the Hout Street Gallery are Jenny Nothard and Jean Veasy.
Other artists whose work is being exhibited include, Pieter van der Westhuizen, Piet van Heerden, Jan Vermeiren, Johannes du Plessis, Bea Jaffray, Solomon Siko, Gregoire Boonzaaier, Hannetjie de Clercq, Hannes van Zyl, Kervin Cupido, Helene Swart, Eben van der Merwe, Jennifer Dorrington, Chris Ruthven and Cecelia van Heerden, to name just a few, says Zetler.
The exhibition will be opened on Thursday 30 June at 18:00.
