A PUBLIC open meeting and project presentation on the proposed New-Generation Correctional Centre in Paarl will be held on Wednesday 20 July between 15:00 and 18:00 in the recreation hall at Allandale Prison.
The Department of Public Works is proposing to construct a 3000 inmate “New-Generation” Correctional Facility adjacent to the existing Allandale prison complex in Paarl East.
The proposed project is part of a national programme implemented to address the issue of overcrowding in South African prisons, drawing on international best practice.
The National Department of Public Works, the applicant on behalf of the Department of Correctional Services, has appointed Boland Environmental Consultants to conduct the Environmental Impact Assessment and associated Public Participation Process.
At the meeting any issues or concerns regarding this proposed construction can be discussed with the consultants.
A draft Environmental Scoping Report as well as a short description of the proposed construction is currently available to the public at the Groenheuwel Public Library (corner of Bo Dal & Bartholomeus Street), at the office of BolandEnviro (74 Stockenstrom Street, Worcester) or on www.BolandEnviro.co.za/project documents.
