THE Department of Labour’s report on the Paarl Print fire, which was compiled after a hearing in Paarl last year, will not be made public unless someone is prosecuted. A total of 13 people died in the fire in the printing plant in Paarl on 17 April 2009. The report has been handed to the National Prosecuting Authority, which has requested further police investigation before taking a decision on prosecution, if any. A spokesperson said the report would not be made public unless a decision was taken to prosecute, while a spokesperson for Paarl Print said they had not received a copy of the report. The company has already paid out a total of R5,9 million in assistance to the families of the deceased, as well as for assistance to those who were injured. The building has since been demolished.
