Franschhoek artists make a stand

THE Franschhoek Art Expo is a new art event on the Franschhoek calendar.
It runs from Friday 11 November to Sunday 13 November at Franschhoek Vineyards. A red carpet fundraising event is staged for invited guests only and is held on Saturday 12 November starting at 17:00.
The art on display consists of original and innovative paintings, ceramics, jewellery, photography, nocturnal light art, sculptures and candles, a true feast for the senses.
While Franschhoek has become one of the most sought after addresses in South Africa, few people know that Franschhoek also has a poverty stricken community. Probably the most vulnerable of all is the local street children.
A group of local artists are making a stand and have teamed up with the Franschhoek Youth Empowerment Action, an organisation that runs the very successful Franschhoek Street Children Project, to stage the expo.
It works like this: The artists exhibit and sell their work and a share of the proceeds go to the Street Children Project.
Additionally, the Franschhoek Art Expo gives volume to the voice of the street children and an opportunity for all to earn income and exposure.
