Roadworks progress

2011-07-21

ALTHOUGH heavy June rains have slightly delayed work on the Wemmers-hoek and Klapmuts roads, the project is running according to schedule.

These were the words of provincial roads agent Riaan Viviers, who has been monitoring this project closely.

Work started on the Wemmershoek Road at the end of the year and the expected time of completion is in April 2012.

Both roads are being rehabilitated with certain areas being repaired, while other surfaces are being entirely resurfaced.

“Last month’s rains put the contractor back by a week or two, but we are sa-tisfied with the work that is being done thus far.

“We are using the same contractor for both projects. Sometimes it may seem as if work is not being done on an area, but the area where work has been done has to settle before the following stage starts.”

Viviers added that there is certain work which cannot be conducted in the rainy season, such as bitumen joints.

Road users in this area are still getting hot under the collar due to delays of up to 10 minutes, but they will have to bite the bullet until the work is completed.
