THE South African oboist, André van Daalen, will perform at the concert in the Nederburg Manor House on 31 July at 17:00.
Accompanied by Albie van Schalkwyk, van Daalen will play works by Schumann, Nielsen, Saint-Saëns and Ravel.
The emphasis in this programme is on pieces that demonstrate the vocal qualities and virtuosity of the oboe. His performance at Nederburg is part of a national South African tour.
Van Daalen started out playing recorder as a child, but wanted to learn an orchestra instrument as well.
“The logical choice was one of the woodwind instruments because of the similarities to the recorder, and after listening to recordings of the various woodwind instruments in the orchestra I decided upon the oboe.”
Tickets are R150 and include a welcoming drink and delicious light supper snacks served with fine Nederburg wines after the recital. Bookings can be made by calling 021 809 8106 or 021 809 8344.
