IN a tight soccer match at the Stellenbosch University fields last weekend, Paarl Soccer Club u.18’s held out against a determined Kuyasa Kids outfit.
The Paarl side came away with a hard fought 1-0 victory and need to thank goalkeeper Chadwin Volmink for some excellent saves.
A free kick from captain Lyle van Rooyen was only partially saved and Dylan Carollisen was on hand to score with a brave header.
The Paarl side held onto the half -time lead despite the efforts of the Stellenbosch team to draw level.
The battle continued in midfield with some fierce tackling. Aidan Litchfield, van Rooyen and Emile Krieger were all made to work as the Kuyasa team pressed forward. Giovanni Johannes on the left of midfield stood out for his passing and ball control.
Ten minutes from the end a breakaway by Siphoqule Mqualo of Paarl saw the forward one on one with the goalkeeper, but the keeper came out to smother the chance and keep the score at 1-0.
