Municipal strike looms next week
2011-08-11
THE South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) is embarking on a national strike as from 15 August, should their wage demands not be met. According to Drakenstein Municipality that the possible strike action could seriously affect some services. All attempts will be made to render essential services, however the delivery of the services like weekly refuse removal, repair of burst water pipes and blocked sewers might not be as scheduled, but will be done as and when circumstances permit and could also be after hours. The Wellington Landfill Facility will be open and/or other contingency measures will be put in place if required. The public is requested to use the all hours complaints number, 021 807 4715, to report service delivery issues which could adversely affect the environment and the health of residents. Information will be conveyed to the public during this period via the local radio station, Radio KC (107.70MHz), at frequent intervals, a spokesperson said.
