"Execution'' killings in Mbekweni

2011-08-25

TWO men were killed in execution style shootings in Mbekweni this past weekend.

Mbekweni police were alerted to Max Supermarket early on Sunday morning, where they discovered the severely injured Sipho James. He had been shot once in the cheek and once in the head.

He was transported to Paarl Hospital and from there to Tygerberg Hospital where he died later on Sunday.

Before the shooting James had been to a local pub. His cousin, with whom he lived was also there. James left and shortly thereafter someone came to tell his cousin that James had been shot.

Two men who were with the deceased have now disappeared.

On Monday morning the police were once again summoned to an open piece of land near OR, between the Berg River and the railway track.

Here the body of Happy Booi (25) was found. He had also suffered two gunshot wounds, one to the head and another in the stomach, and had already been dead for several hours.

Police believe that Booi had not been killed where his body was found, but that he had been dumped there after he had been shot. In both cases nobody has yet been arrested.

Mbekweni police are appealing to the public to come forward with any information which could clarify these murders.

WO Nico Stevens can be contacted with any information on 021 868 9926 or 082 777 5943. All information will be kept strictly confidential.

* On Monday, Mbekweni police also discovered the body of a man who had presumably been beaten to death in M-block.

According to police spokesperson, Constable Lungi Mqakelana, the police received information that Lulamile Mfundisi (32) had been beaten to death by the family of a 15-year old-boy, who had allegedly tried to break into Mfundisi’s house.

The boy was caught in the act and assaulted. He however managed to escape and called his family.

On their arrival at the scene, Mfundisi was bludgeoned to death with an axe. No arrests have been made.
