Why no jobs for black Paarlites?

Why no jobs for black Paarlites?

2005-10-27

I AM a very concerned Paarlite from a Previously Disadvantaged Area (well it is still disadvantaged). I’m really concerned about the fact that only coloured and white people get employment in the Western Cape, particularly in Paarl - this is a reality, especially in the financial sector and the municipality.

All I want is for black people to be given a chance to prove themselves and work. I know that (sometimes) when people see a Black person they see a criminal, thief and everything else that is bad.

If you go around Paarl you will see that the majority of the people who are sitting in the sun with their degrees are black people whereas some coloured and whites are working even though they have grade 8 or 9.

I am tired of the fact that a black and disabled person has to do all the menial work and sell themselves in order to find work.

Where’s Employment Equity in Paarl? There’s no affirmative action posts and the Government is not doing anything about it.

There’s youth structures and community centres in Paarl, but what they are doing for the pdp’s is minimal.

We are living in a democratic country, so let us stop this racism in terms of employment and development opportunities. We all have brains, the colour of the skin is not important.

Crime will never decrease in Paarl because of this - people are unemployed, they have nothing to do so they shoplift and do crime for a living. Some of them want to go to jail because it’s much better there - they’ll get food and everything for free...
