Soccer flags investigated

2011-09-01

IN a report last week, regarding the suspension of the Drakenstein municipal manager and the director of corporate services at the Municipality, it was stated that “more than R1 million” had been spent by the Municipality on soccer flags during the 2010 World Cup without seeking tenders.

The actual figure spent by the Municipality on soccer flags and banners supplied by the company Fahnen-Fleck of Wellington, was initially R600 000.

Further smaller orders ensued, for which tenders were not required. Total expenditure on soccer flags is estimated to have been nearly R1 million. Final figures will be known when the investigation is complete.
