Rushing waters
2005-10-27
ON Sunday 23 October I suddenly heard the sound of rushing water. Suspecting a repetition of a burst pipe in my garden which had cost me two thousand rand to the municipality, I ran outside to investigate.
A two metre wide river of water came cascading down Septimus Street, flooding La Mode Street.
I quickly phoned Emergency Services at 021 807 4715. No reply. Frantically I phoned the Fire Brigade and reported the horrendous wastage, but was told its not their concern, I must dial 021 872 2557 (which in my directory is listed as power defects), but still no reply.
By this time half the neighbourhood was watching helplessly and some reported that they also phoned.
Forty five minutes later, the water was still gushing unabated. So please expect water restrictions again soon - while the Municipality sleeps!
