THE Paarl Senior A team were unable to beat a lively Velddrif team and were fortunate to come away with a 1-1 draw at the week-end’s soccer tournament in Paarl. The senior game ended a great day’s tournament played in a fine spirit. Velddrif visited Paarl on Saturday to take part in a club competition along with several local junior sides and the Paarl Soccer Club. The Junior u.13’s and 15’s battled it out. Local junior side, Evergreen United u.15, had a tough encounter with the u.15’s from Velddrif, coming out on top courtesy of an excellent hat-trick from Joshua September. Despite being two-one down at half-time, Evergreen struck back in the second half with September claiming all of the goals. Local side NORSA drew 2-2 with Evergreens, while Velddrif u.15 were held 1-1 by Paarl Soccer Club u.15 after Bradley Carpenter of Paarl struck a free kick late in the game. Paarl u.18’s played the Velddrif Senior B team and claimed a 3-1 victory. Aviwe, Van Rooyen and Krieger claimed the goals for Paarl. Clinton Keet and Captain van Rooyen played excellently, while keeper Volmink produced another series of fine saves. On the wing Emile Krieger of Paarl created many chances with his speed and ball control while the strong tackling of Siphokhule Mqalo in the Paarl midfield dashed the attacking hopes of the visiting team.
