Restrictions, prices of water down
2005-11-03
A REDUCTION in water restrictions from 20% to 5%, became effective on Tuesday, following above average winter rainfall in the Western Cape.
The Wemmershoek Dam, Drakenstein Municipality’s biggest water source, is currently 91,8% full, compared tot 58,5% last year.
Most of the restrictions remain the same, with the biggest relief to gardeners: you can now water gardens, lawns, parks and open spaces every day before 10:00 and after 16:00, instead of every third day.
All water tariffs have also been reduced by 10% in Paarl, by 5% in Wellington and Gouda and by 2,5% in Saron.
The difference in percentage decrease for the different towns is due to different tariffs previously applied and consumption volumes that differ.
