Lightfingered guests

MIND who you allow into your guest-house late at night, or you might find not only your guest gone, but also the television set, oil heater, microwave, bedside lamp.
A man claiming to be Pieter Swiegers booked into the Amberg guest-house on the Du Toit’s Kloof Pass at 22:00 on Saturday after borrowing R200 from the barman to pay for the night.
Some time during the night he drove off in his blue Isuzu bakkie, to return later with two women.
He disappeared early on Sunday morning, his bakkie stacked with goods stolen from Amberg.
That night a man calling himself Johan van Staden arrived at the Basse Provence guest farm in Franschhoek.
He was again driving the blue double-cab Isuzu with the registration number CVK 778 MP, as had been parked outside Amberg.
The non-paying guest left Franschhoek before the guest-house personnel arrived on Monday morning, again after having cleaned out the room.
The man is described as old, fair-skinned and with a paunch. Police have since established that the Isuzu had been stolen in Lydenburg, Mpumalanga.
Information on the suspect’s whereabouts will be appreciated by Insp Jaco van der Bank (876-8066) and Insp Alanza Pieters (807-4000).
