Open day to discuss the urban edge
2005-11-03
OPEN days to discuss the future development of urban areas in Drakenstein, including urban edges, densification and open spaces, will be held in Paarl and Wellington later this month.
The Paarl meeting in the Huguenot Community Hall will be held from 16:00 to 20:00, while the Wellington open day is on 24 November at the town hall from 16:00 to 22:00. Presentations will be given 18:30.
The urban edges will indicate the limits of urban growth for an agreed period of time, with a view to protecting valuable natural and cultural resources, contain urban sprawl, create more efficient urban areas and ensure sustainable development.
The urban edge study will demarcate the outer limits of urban expansion, formulate management policies for the urban edge and establish a set of criteria and guidelines for the assessment of development applications.
Densification
The urbanisation and densification study indicates how much land will be required over a 20 year period to accommodate the projected growth.
The urban edge and densification reports will indicaterecommended future expansion directions to aid planning.
The reports are available in local libraries as well as at the municipal offices in Paarl, Wellington and Gouda.
Send comments to Ahsley Roelf (Fax 807-4840 or ashleyr@drakentein.go.vza or PO Box 1, Paarl, 7622) by 5 December.
