Franschhoek Arts Expo will benefit children
2005-11-10
THE Franschhoek Art Expo is a new art event on the Franschhoek calendar. It runs from Friday to Sunday at Franschhoek Vineyards. A red carpet fund-raising event is staged for invited guests only and is held on Saturday 12 November starting at 17:00.
The art on display consists of original and innovative paintings, ceramics, jewellery, photography, nocturnal light art, sculptures and candles, a true feast for the senses.
While Franschhoek has become a sought after, few people know that Franschhoek also has a poverty stricken community.
Probably the most vulnerable of all are the local street children. A group of local artists have teamed up with the Franschhoek Youth Empowerment Action, an organisation that runs the very successful Franschhoek Street Children Project, to stage the expo.
The art consists of paintings by Jo, Karen Benjamin, and Johann Burger, nocturnal light art by Dave de Villiers, sculptures by Stephen Rautenbach, pottery by Vuyisa Elvis Potina, photography by Santjie Viljoen, Jeremy Browne and Siegfried Schäfer, wax works by Sonja Roets, pencil sketches by Divan Roets, jewellery by Carmen Dreyer and Adriaan Du Toit (Du Toit Classique Jewellery Studio).
